If the drive roller is not turning when the torch trigger is depressed:
Make sure the power switch on the welder is in the “On” position. Check the house panel circuit breaker. For best results, use a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Do not use an extension cord.
Make sure that the torch contacts are assembled correctly. Unplug the welder and check for any loose connections inside the case. It is possible for spade connectors to jar loose during transport.
If there is a fuse on the speed board, check to see if the fuse needs to be replaced. If the board does not have a fuse, the entire board may need to be replaced. Call 1-800-746-5641 for additional technical assistance if needed.
If the drive roller is turning when the torch trigger is depressed:
Make sure you have cut off any kinked or burred areas before feeding the wire into the liner. Make sure the wire is clean and smooth. Make sure the wire has not become tangled, bent or bound up on the spool. Be sure you have a straight wire started into the wire liner.
Always remove the contact tip when loading wire. Make sure there is no wire welded to the contact tip. Check the tip for clogs. If you do not see a round hole that is free of spatter, replace the tip. To avoid welding wire to the contact tip, use a faster wire speed setting or a lower heat setting.
Make sure that the drive roller groove is the same size as the wire being used. Look at the number facing out on the drive roller. The drive roller groove, contact tip and wire diameter must be the same. The drive roller is usually marked with metric numbers (mm). Contact tips usually have both metric and inches. Wire is usually in inches. .023" = .6mm, .030" = .8mm, .035" = .9mm, .040" = 1.0mm. When using aluminum wire, be sure to use a smooth groove drive roller, even if it’s smaller than the wire diameter. Make sure the drive tension is set tight enough. Usually about three full turns of the tensioning screw is about right. If you see the drive roller slipping on the wire, try tightening a little more. Check the drive roller groove for wear. If the drive roller has worn too large to grip the wire, the roller must be replaced. Call 1-800-746-5641 for additional technical assistance if needed.
