- If the wire is damp or has been damp, replace it with new wire. Old wire can also cause this problem; wire is considered old if it’s been left in the wire feeder for more than 6 months. If you’re not sure how old the wire is, replace it with new wire.
- Make sure the contact tip is the same size as the wire.
- Check the wire speed setting to be sure that it’s correct for the welding technique.
- Make sure the polarity is set correctly, that the drive roller is not slipping and that the gas bottle is not empty.
